What can Systema do for you?

STRENGTH

IMG_3912.jpg
  • improved strength and flexibility
  • improved posture and movement
  • freedom from injuries, joint pain and muscle pain

The health and wellness aspects of Systema include breathwork, stretching, massage, and exercises to build strength, balance, dexterity, and movement ability.

Exercises are performed slowly and mindfully, and everyone works at their own pace and ability level. All movements are non-destructive, and are designed to heal and strengthen the body simulataneously.

Done consistently, Systema exercises redirect blood flow to damaged tissues, heal injuries, protect joints, and erase chronic stiffness and pain. We also teach simple, effective, restorative massage techniques that can be learned and used by anyone. As such, trainees of all ages can expect continuous improvements in strength, health and vitality.

Drop into any of our weekly classes to exprience the health benefits of Systema for yourself. Our conditioning classes are FREE of charge, and open to all (minimum age 16). Click below to view our current class schedule.

COURAGE

  • heightened awareness
  • improved emotional control
  • mastery of fear, anxiety and panic
  • ability to function in high-stress situations
  • practical survival and self-protection skills

The self-defense aspects of Systema are based upon powerful, efficient biomechanical principles, allowing you to survive and prevail even when outsized or outnumbered.

All aspects of personal protection are covered - from avoidance and de-escalation to escape, evasion, and defensive tactics. The sense of safety, security and stability that comes with such knowledge is profound.

Learn to protect yourself and your loved ones in a supportive, welcoming environment - with none of the bullying, posturing or paranoia that are regrettably common in other martial arts and personal defense classes.

No prior knowledge or training is assumed, and beginners are welcome to join any group class or workshop.

For NC locals, we offer weekly group classes in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill region.

HUMILITY

  • quiet, calm confidence
  •  improved relationships with others
  • a deeper understanding of yourself

The self-development aspects of Systema are based in the stoic warrior traditions of ancient Russia, and the credo of poznai sebia, or "Know Thyself".

Beyond practical health and survival, the ultimate goal of System training is to better understand yourself.

It is not enough just to know what your strengths and weaknesses are. This is helpful, of course, but fairly superficial. Beyond this, Systema training enables us to see the full extent of our limitations - to see how proud and weak we really are. Systema allows us to gain the true strength of spirit that comes from humility, clarity, and seeing the purpose of our life.

The philosophical roots of Systema are in the Russian Orthodox tradition, and the belief that everything that happens to us - good or bad - has but one ultimate purpose. That is, to create the best possible conditions for each person to understand himself.

Proper training in Systema carries the same objective: to put every participant into the best possible setting for him to realize as much about himself as he is able to handle at any given moment.
